I have been a registered nurse for 25 years and Board Certified Lactation Consultant for the past 16 years. I have been in private practice as well as employed by Texas WIC for over 14 years. During this time I developed a hospital lactation program that contained staff skill competency as well as classroom educational component. I am the Chair of the Harris County Breastfeeding Coalition and Chair of the Texas Breastfeeding Coalition. Texas was one of the original states chosen to pilot the Business Case for Breastfeeding and I was one of the original two trainers trained at USBC. January of 2010 I participated at the USBC meeting in Washington DC and the advocacy day at the Capital with my Senators and Representatives. I am the mother of five breastfed children ranging in age from 27-13 years old.
